I wanted to post some of my more recent sewing projects. The projector has made sewing so fast and easy since I bought it almost a year ago. It got bumped a couple times this winter by my kids or myself, but re-calibrating it wasn’t very difficult. Looking back at my sewing projects since my last post, most have been Christmas stockings, but there have been a fair amount of clothes too, including several new projects for myself. I bought fabric to make new winter clothes 2-3 winters ago and finally used it!
Sometime back in August, I realized that I needed to think about Homecoming. I have made my daughter lots of dresses for various occasions, including two she’s worn for Eighth Grade Formal, Church Prom, and Homecoming last year. But I knew that this one needed to be a step above. I want her to feel comfortable, beautiful, and not have her outfit look homemade. Plus, when she was a baby and I began sewing for her, I determined that I wanted to become good enough at sewing that I could one day sew her formal dresses.
I’ve got a big project to share, my daughter’s Homecoming dress, but before I do that, I wanted to highlight various projects I’ve done since my last post. I haven’t been working on very many purse patterns this year, but I have been working on a lot of sewing projects! My new projector has been making things so much faster and easier, especially when it comes to kid wardrobes.
About a month ago I posted about my new projector and my experience with it. I had decided to go through all of my patterns and update them to have Projector files and A0 files. This was a long and involved process, but I think it has been worth it to make my patterns more accessible to different types of sewing.
Have you heard about using projectors for sewing? I have been hearing about this trend for years, but since I usually do a lot of fit adjustments for myself, and I didn’t really want to mount something on my ceiling, I decided it wasn’t for me. But about six months ago
It’s time for a new pattern! I must be going for alliteration. My last pattern was the Slimline Sling and this one is the Scotia Satchel!
Time again to review some of my sewing projects recently. Apparently it’s been quite a few months since I checked in! Here are some kid clothes I made last year, most for my 5yo, but also some for my daughters.
I’m happy to announce my newest pattern, the Slimline Sling! This fun asymmetrical sling comes in three sizes. It’s perfect for carrying just the essentials close to your body. Commuting to work? Traveling on vacation? Going on a hike? You can keep your items close to your body and away secure. The Slimline Sling works just as well worn on the front or back. There’s a handy spot for your phone or sunglasses, plus two other zippered outer pockets and the large interior.
How is your summer going? My kids start back at school in three weeks, which makes me realize how much the summer has flown by. We’ve been busier than ever, with my oldest off at two church camps and a national competition for TSA (Technology club), my second one attending one church camp and three school “innovations”, my third attending a school Stem Camp, and all of my kids signed up for whatever free library events I could find.
Last week I finished up shooting and editing my eleventh Sewing Summit. I’ve been involved in these from the very beginning several years ago when Rebecca Page of Rebecca Page Patterns began them. I always loved the concept—a week of sewing tutorials, multiple classes a day, free the day of and paid if you wanted access to the videos afterwards. It was not without kinks, but they seemed to mostly smooth them out as time went on.
